Abstract

|
Experiments were conducted to investigate the effect of mulching materials on the flowering, pod yield, shoot fresh weight, and nodule development in 3 early maturing cultivars of snapbeans.
Transparent and black polyethylene (PE) film mulchings were effective on increasing soil temperature in day-time, especially during the period of late May to early June. PE film mulchings, both clear and black, promoted early flowering and increased pod yield, especially the early pod yield in all cultivars. `Burpee¢¥s Tenderpod¢¥ showed the highest early and total pod yield whereas `Harvester¢¥ showed the lowest. Number of root nodules per gram fresh root was highest in `Burpee¢¥s Tenderpod¢¥ cultivar and significantly reduced by PE film mulchings.
